Ryan McKenna

Ryan Knúcwme McKenna is of Shuswap, Métis, and Scottish descent. He has lived the duration of his life in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, but in recent years has reconnected with his community in Canoe Creek. McKenna is a multidisciplinary artist who works in a variety of mediums, including stop motion animation, sound, drawing, and film. The underlying thread and inspiration that brings all of his work to life is the want and need to recount the stories from elders and medicine people growing up. McKenna has developed a special relationship with his art making. It has become a tool of documentation that encapsulates the intersections of time, culture, and circumstance. McKenna is also an educator and holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. He hopes to utilize his art as a vessel in education and to realign public opinion of First Nations issues and perspectives.
