Vikky Alexander

Vikky Alexander lives and works in Montreal, QC. She was formerly based in New York (1979-1992) and Vancouver (1994-2016). She holds a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and is Professor Emeriti of the Visual Arts Department at the University of Victoria. Alexander has held solo exhibitions at Tomorrow Gallery, New York (2017); the Apartment, Vancouver (2014); Surrey Art Gallery (2004); National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa (2000); Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver (1999); Art Gallery of Windsor (1998); Presentation House Gallery, Vancouver (1996); Mercer Union, Toronto (1993); Vancouver Art Gallery (1992); Kunsthalle Bern, Bern (1990), and New Museum, New York (1985), amongst others. She has also participated in group exhibitions at MoCCA, Toronto (2015); Kelowna Art Gallery (2014); Kamloops Art Gallery (2014); Art Gallery of Greater Victoria (2014); Museum for Gegenwartskunst, Basel, Switzerland (2013); CultureGest, Lisbon, Portugal (2013); National Gallery of Canada (2012), amongst others. Her work has been featured in forty-two exhibition catalogues and numerous critical art publications and has been awarded several grants from the Canada Council. In 2009 she was artist in residence at La Cite Internationale Des Arts, Paris, France. Alexanders’ work is held in the collections of significant institutions, including the International Centre for Photography, New York; Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, UBC, Vancouver; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa; and the New School for Social Research, New York.
