Workshop

Let’s Photo Zine

A youth photo zine workshop by Julia Dahee Hong

Bringing together photography and printed matter, “Let’s Photo Zine” is an introductory workshop to photography zines and artists’ books for high school students. Zines are a great way to distribute and give shape to photographs and ideas. Often self-published, easily accessible, alternative, and experimental, they are platforms for visual communication and artistic expression. Participants will be invited to bring photographs to the workshop and to exercise their visual and conceptual language by collaboratively creating and designing a photo zine. Using simple and essential book making/binding techniques, “Let’s Photo Zine” will promote an experimental and playful environment to collectively produce a unique photo zine.

Julia Dahee Hong is an emerging artist based in Vancouver. Hong’s practice spans photography, performance, writing, sculpture, and installation, and she has exhibited in Canada, France, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. She holds a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design (2015).
