Join us for an alumni panel discussion with alumni Rydel Cerezo | @rydelc, Tom Hsu | @tomhsu, Jocelyne Junker | @jocelynejunker and Chelsea Yuill | @nice__colours and moderated by Emmy Lee Wall and Birthe Piontek | @birthepiontek . Organized as part of the new “Capture x Emily Carr” class, this online panel is open to the public.

Our panelists will share their current practices and speak about their experiences transitioning from Emily Carr University to working artists and curators. Among others, they will address questions around establishing networks, navigating studio visits and exhibitions, and maintaining and expanding an art practice.

We’re partnering for a third year with @booooooo

We’re partnering for a third year with @booooooom who is hosting an open call for an artist group to have their work installed on the King Edward Canada Line Train Station from April to August 2022.

If you’re a photographer or an artist making lens-based work, this is an international open call to submit work that engages with the theme “still life”.

The selected artist’s work will be part of #CapturePhotoFest2022, will be featured on the Capture website, and in the 2022 Capture Catalogue, thousands of copies of which are distributed throughout Metro Vancouver. The artist will also be featured in articles on Booooooom.com. ⁣

September 20, 2021, Vancouver, BC—Capture Photography Festival is pleased to announce the appointment of Jas Lally as the Festival’s new TD Assistant Curator of Engagement. She assumes her position as of October 4, 2021.

Lally has been involved in the Vancouver art community for over 10 years working in not-for-profit organizations supporting local emerging artists. Lally is currently serving as President for the Board of Directors of the Contemporary Art Society of Vancouver, President and Fundraising Chair for the Board of Directors of the Richmond Art Gallery Association and is on the Artist Residency Committee for Burrard Arts Foundation

Lally states, “I am really excited to be part of the Capture team and help bring meaningful art encounters to the public.”

Capture’s Executive Director, Emmy Lee Wall states, “Jas’ passion for contemporary art and deep roots within the art community will be invaluable as she takes on this critical position within our team. We are indebted to TD for their generous support in realizing this important role for the Festival.

Submissions for Capture 2022’s Selected Exhibiti

Submissions for Capture 2022’s Selected Exhibition programming are now open!

From September 13 to October 15, 2021 at 11:59 PM, Capture Photography Festival is accepting Exhibition proposals for inclusion in the juried Selected Exhibitions Program. The 2022 Capture Photography Festival runs from April 1–29.

In celebration we’re announcing this year’s Selected Exhibition jury. In addition to Emmy Lee Wall, Capture’s Executive Director, the 2022 Capture Selected Exhibitions Jury includes:⁣

Sophie Hackett  Curator, Photography at the Art Gallery of Ontario

Stephanie Rebick | Associate Curator, Vancouver Art Gallery

Capture Photography Festival is pleased to announc

Capture Photography Festival is pleased to announce the second annual Capture Printing Prize, with a value of $10,000 CAD. The Printing Prize will be awarded annually to an artist participating in Capture’s Selected Exhibition Program.

Adjudicated by a jury of art professionals, the Printing Prize is open to local, national and international lens-based artists with a history of exhibiting their work in a professional capacity, who have been selected to participate in the Festival. The artist awarded the Printing Prize will be provided $10,000 towards the production of the artist’s work. These funds can be used towards digital archiving, printing, mounting, finishing and framing of work for presentation in the artist’s Capture Selected Exhibition.

Submissions for the Capture Printing Prize will be open with the Call for Submissions to the 2022 Selected Exhibition Program. The application is available September 13 – October 15, 2021.

In collaboration with @richmondartgallerybc @howar

In collaboration with @richmondartgallerybc @howartworks, @cityofrichmondbc, and InTransit BC, public art submissions are now open for a photo-based artwork to be installed on a Canada Line Station in Richmond. This public art installation will be part of Capture Photo Festival’s 2022 Public Art Program. The selected artist or artist collective will also be included in Capture's annual festival catalogue and on Capture's website. ⁣

This opportunity is open to photo-based artists with priority given to those who self-identify as Black, Indigenous and/or racialized persons.⁣
