Steven Shearer

Steven Shearer is a Vancouver-based artist. He holds a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design. In 2011, he represented Canada at the 54th International Venice Biennale. His works have been included in the notable group exhibitions Canadian Biennial at the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa (2017); 1+1=1 at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (2014); Shore, Forest and Beyond at the Vancouver Art Gallery (2011); Daniel Guzman and Steven Shearer at MUCA, University Museum of Arts and Sciences in Mexico City and at the New Museum in New York (2008); Untitled: Pin UP: Contemporary Collages and Drawing, at Tate Modern (2005); and New Perspectives at the Art Gallery of Ontario (1996). He has also held major solo exhibitions locally and internationally, including at the Brant Foundation Art Study Center, Greenwich, Connecticut (2016); Charles Riva Collection, London, UK (2015); Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, Harlem, US (2013); The Apartment, Vancouver (2009); Power Plant, Toronto (2007); Ikon Gallery, Birmingham (2007); Center for Contemporary Art, Amsterdam, NL (2007), Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver (2004); Blum & Poe, L.A. (2003); and Mars Gallery, Tokyo (2002). In 2005 he was presented a Viva Award and in 2006 he was shortlisted for the Sobey Art Award. His works have been collected by major institutions, including the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa and the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, Vancouver.
