Join us for an immersive photography workshop designed to deepen your engagement with images. Through a series of exercises, we’ll slow down your gaze, allowing you to explore photographs layer-by-layer and build a deeper understanding of their composition. Guided discussions will help you delay instant interpretation, enabling you to uncover hidden significance and appreciate the artwork’s construction. This approach will enrich your future gallery experiences and, for artists, offer insights for photo creation and sparking conversations about the work’s impact on viewers. The exhibition explores Capture’s current Selected Exhibition at Gallery 881, Expect Delays by Barbara Strigel.

Sally Buck is an award-winning photographer, street artist and art educator living in so-called Vancouver, Canada. Using photography and photo montage, she aims to capture the superimposed qualities of transitional spaces, the slide of multiple climates, and the confluence of visual cultures. Functioning in public, urban spaces, her artworks and workshops can embody our desire for organic growth within civic demarcations, our flourishing through non-prescribed activity, and our experience of change through eco-and art-historical storytelling.

Buck earned a Master’s degree in Visual and Performing Arts in Education at UBC and a B.A. (Honours) degree in Art History at Queen’s University, Canada. Her photographs and photomontages have been published editorially and exhibited in Canada, the US, and Europe. As an educator, she’s taught art interpretation at universities, galleries and museums including the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation in Venice, Italy and the Vancouver Art Gallery in Canada.

Gallery 881 is committed to providing an accessible and welcoming space for all visitors. Our street-level entrance has no steps. The gallery features wide double doors (72″ x 80″). The gallery floor is flat with no internal stairs and our events are scent-reduced. We offer one non-gendered, private, universal washroom with grab bars and a 32” wide entrance for wheelchair access. Support animals are welcome and we strive to create a comfortable environment for all visitors. If you have questions or need assistance, please call us at 604-789-6987.
