Sylvan Hamburger

Sylvan Hamburger (b. 1994, Vancouver BC | xwməθkwəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, səlilwətaɬ) is a visual artist working across corresponding acts of public intervention and personal recollection. He often employs printmaking, textiles, architecture and colour to reimagine experiences of place and self within changing contemporary landscapes. Sylvan has completed residencies, exhibitions and public installations across North America, including projects with Vernon Public Art Gallery, Vermont Studio Centre, Eastern Edge Artist-Run Centre (St. John’s), Klondike Institute of Art and Culture (Dawson City), The Rooms Museum (St. John’s), Malaspina Printmakers (Vancouver), Vancouver Maritime Museum, and The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Alongside these projects, he has facilitated various community-based art initiatives with the Vancouver Parks Board and the City of Vancouver. He is currently an MFA candidate at Rutgers University, New Jersey.
