 Ada Dragomir

Ada Dragomir is a visual art student in her final year at Emily Carr University whose quirky, cynical humour feels most at home in the interstitial space between spoofed youtube videos and serious sculptural objects. Born in the tumult of the Romanian revolution, and currently living as a guest on unceded Coast Salish territory, Dragomir’s videos, performances, and projections are simultaneously deeply immigrant and thoroughly millennial. Juxtaposing “high” and “low” materials like dirt, bronze, ice and matches, she harnesses the power of absurdity and irony to point to uncomfortable political realities. Dragomir’s videos and objects question the value of labour, the gendered and raced nature of work, and the mechanisms of art in late capitalism. Under it’s sardonic veneer, Dragomir’s practice is secretly an instrument for dreaming up a different future. adadragomir.com
