Alana Paterson is an emerging photographer living in BC. She received her BFA with a Major in Photography from Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Vancouver, and a BFA from Lesley University in Boston. After a decade of commercial and lifestyle photography work, Paterson shifted her practice towards social documentary. Over the past few years, Paterson has become deeply invested in gender inequality and women’s civil liberties. Paterson’s recent works are focused on women’s empowerment through sport, particularly young women at the beginning of their career. Paterson hopes to shed light on gender inequalities in sport, while celebrating women’s strength and resilience in a male dominated field.
