Artist Statement
Earth’s inhabitants are on the verge of extinction due to the excessive amount of plastic which takes years to decompose. The image I created visualizes my emotions about the impact of plastic pollution on the environment. It seems infeasible to return this planet to the pristine condition it was once in. In my opinion, the only reasonable solution is to restart. I found inspiration for this image through the movie, Dr. Strange. The film is about a superhero who can open a portal to almost anywhere. This gave me an idea about traveling to a new planet—one that is untouched and unpolluted. The portal that leads to another planet in my work is an escape or a new beginning where Earth is taken care of. We, as humans, will have learned through our previous experiences. Humanity would be given the chance to restart civilization in a healthy and untainted environment. As one can see, the delay in change is what will cost us and we must take action now.
