Ann Thomas

Ann Thomas is Senior Curator of Photographs at the National Gallery of Canada and has on two separate occasions acted as Interim Chief Curator at the NGC (March 2018-January 2020; September 2010-March 2011). She has organized numerous exhibitions and installations and is the author of several catalogues and publications such as Lisette Model (1990); Modernist Photographs from the National Gallery of Canada (2007); American Photographs 1900-1950 (2011) and curated numerous exhibitions including Donald McCullin (2013), The Great War and the Persuasive Power of Photography (2014) and Luminous and True: the Photographs of Frederick H. Evans (2015); The Intimate World of Joseph Sudek (2016); The Extended Moment: 50 years of Collecting Photographs at the National Gallery of Canada. 

As Interim Chief Curator of the National Gallery’s collections she had oversight of all the collecting areas including Library and Archives and ensured that their care, development and research were undertaken according to the terms of the relevant National Gallery of Canada policies and with the necessary rigour and resources. In her capacity as Senior Curator of Photographs she is responsible for the development and interpretation of 19th, 20th century and contemporary international photographs and related materials.
