Charlotte Yao’s practice considers photography’s value as a dominant mode of representation and its relationships to various systems underlying the everyday. Her work tackles various contemporary issues such as political, financial, and cultural representation. Often expanding from traditional photographic mediums, her investigations take the form of performance and installation. Yao’s trajectory delves into seemingly mundane social contexts and draws out their representations and misrepresentations.
She lives and works in Vancouver and is currently enrolled at Emily Carr University of Art + Design.
