Born in Grimsby, Ontario, Chris Shepherd began his artistic career as a painter and turned to photography as a means of familiarizing himself with Toronto, a city he initially felt very separate from. Through his process of exploration, his interest in urban landscapes developed into a series of photographs that capture fleeting moments in time and reflect passed-over or underappreciated tableaus of metropolitan life.
The serenity and reserved nature of Shepherd’s photographs are in sharp juxtaposition with the locations they depict. Shepherd captures fleeting moments in time, whether a brief moment of tranquility in the perpetual cycle of arrivals and departures on the Toronto subway system, or the period of time between tenants in commercial buildings. His artwork has been exhibited across North America and is included in major corporate collections in Canada.
