Dane Murner (b. Winnipeg, MB, 1992) lives and works in Vancouver, BC.
Murner approaches photography while he is walking. He walks with the intention and focus of finding something that will make an interesting image. He is attracted to objects, as well as gestures, colour palettes, intriguing light, and scenes that produce an illusion once photographed. While fleeting moments such as gestures may only provide enough time to be photographed once or twice, static subjects are photographed from multiple positions to find the most interesting composition of the scene’s subjects and elements.
Through this practice, Murner creates gentle, but compelling scenes with multiple elements and layers. His work is consistent through different genres, including cityscapes, landscapes, still lifes, and street photography. Murner is drawn to photography as it challenges and develops his eye, mind, and heart to find beauty and significance in the commonplace.
