Dave Rodden-Shortt

Dave Rodden-Shortt is an award-winning queer filmmaker and installation artist whose practice explores how marginalized communities build their own storytelling infrastructure through documentary and lens-based media, with a particular focus on queer history.

His work has screened at international film festivals, including Happytime Social Club and The Empress of Vancouver. Rodden-Shortt interrogates questions of what society deems “natural” versus “unnatural,” exploring themes of loss and memory. Current projects include his exhibition ENDLINGS, which examines extinction and how museums and archives function as colonial spaces of control, and the feature-length archival documentary Gayblevision, about one of Canada’s first gay and lesbian television shows. He is expanding his practice from screen-based documentary into spatial installation work.
