David Barbour was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and has lived in Ottawa since 1982. He received the World Press Award in1985 for a photograph taken in Egypt for the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), and his work is held in the collections of the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, Library and Archives Canada, Canada Council Art Bank, and City of Ottawa Public Art Collection, all in Ottawa, as well as the University of Winnipeg. Barbour currently teaches photography at Ottawa’s School of Photographic Arts (SPAO) and the Ottawa School of Art.
