Dona Nabata graduated with honours from Emily Carr College of Art and Design, now known as Emily Carr University. She spent two years at the Shimpo Togei Centre in Kyoto and received a BA in Asian Studies from the University of British Columbia. Nabata continued her studies at Kyoritsu Primitive Art in Tokyo, Japan and has exhibited throughout the Lower Mainland and Vancouver. The daughter of Nissei, or second-generation Japanese immigrants, her work revolves around the issues of identity and cultural alienation.
