Dr. Michelle Jack

Dr. Michelle Jack (sqilxʷ / syilx (okanagan)) is a visual creative and scholar whose work investigates the impacts of the 49th parallel border on her community’s lands, family ties, language, and traditions. Her goal is to give the land, water, other elements, and the spirits and ancestors a space to speak, aiming to honour the cəpcaptíkʷɬ (traditional teachings) from all the timxʷ (all living things). She earned her PhD from Washington State University, her MFA from the University of Washington in Seattle, and her BFA from the University of New Mexico.
