Evan Rensch is an emerging Canadian visual arts photographer. Originally from the Maritimes, Rensch holds degrees from Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick and NSCAD University in Halifax. Currently, he divides his time between Vancouver and Dawson City, Yukon.
Rensch’s photographic projects are rooted in documentary practice and draw upon the histories of portraiture and landscape photography. Guiding all of his work is an insistence on the themes of place, memory, and labour in the formation of human identity. Frequently, he is drawn toward social-based subject matter for his work, photographing communities that are ignored by, or seek to escape from, contemporary urban society.
