Interested in metaphysics and temporality, Hiroshi Sugimoto is best known for his highly stylized photographic static images of seascapes, movie theatres, natural history dioramas, waxworks, and Buddhist sculptures.
Sugimoto has exhibited extensively, including at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; and the Serpentine Museum, London, among numerous other major institutions. Most recently, Sugimoto’s newest works were shown in Singapore, Munich, and London.
