Isabelle Pauwels

Isabelle Pauwels is an artist based in New Westminster who works primarily in video and multimedia installation. Her blend of performance and documentary realism explores the relationship between narrative conventions and everyday life. She received a BFA from Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design, Vancouver, in 2001 and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2006. Since her first solo exhibition at Vancouver’s Or Gallery in 2001, she has exhibited and screened her work nationally and internationally, including in the United States, Scotland, Belgium, and Sweden. Recent exhibitions include screenings at the Western Front, Vancouver (2012) and Dazibao, Montreal (2014). Pauwels won the Brink Award in 2009 and was shortlisted for the prestigious Sobey Art Award in 2013. In 2014, she presented her first theatrical performance, ,000, at the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center in Troy, New York.
