Jeff Downer’s photographic practice is an undaunted trial scouting the everyday, preserving the spectacle in our cultural fabric. His most recent exhibition was in 2017 at Project Duplex, where the artist was calling attention to the relationship between photographs, the objects they document, and the obsolescence of shopping catalogue photography. He has participated in several residencies, most recently at the Tenjinyama Art Studio in Sapporo, Japan, the Or Gallery in Vancouver, and the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal. His work with lens-based images extends wall-bound exhibitions and into printed matter and artist publications. His most recent artist book accompanies his exhibition Handsome Rewards.
