Artist Statement

In the past few years, I’ve found a love for photography, especially for light photography, Photoshop, and video making. I loved working on this project as it sheds a light on the issue that is our plastic world. My inspiration focuses on young climate change activists. From my friends in my community, to young activists around the world, I admire their abilities to stand up for what they believe in and make a difference. Some understand what young activists say, but unfortunately, people are taking little to no action against climate change. Or worse, there are those who deny that it exists! In my work, I show gloved hands with words on them of people who don’t fully realize the effects of climate change. The words look like they can create silence, but the model’s eyes are defiant. The tape also tries to suppress. As future caretakers of the earth, we will not be consumed by the plastic world we are living in. We will be heard and we will take action.
