Justin Muir

Justin Muir is a Vancouver-based executive director and curator. He received a BFA from the University of Victoria in 2004, and a MFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Vancouver in 2018. His academic research focused on the potential and problems of approaching the field of curating as an artistic practice.

He worked as the executive director of the Langley Arts Council from 2005 to 2006, the business manager of the Federation of Canadian Artists from 2007 to 2008, the program administrator of the Contemporary Art Gallery (Vancouver) from 2009 to 2010, and has worked as the executive director of Malaspina Printmakers since 2011. He has been a board member of Unit/Pitt and ArtsBC, and was the founder of Balcone.

Muir has curated over seventy exhibitions and programmed over sixty artist residencies. Through both presentation and production-based programming, he has had the privilege of working with many local and international artists including Michael Drebert, Kim Kennedy Austin, Marina Roy, Abbas Akhavan, Eric Metcalfe, Anne Low, Gareth Moore, Kathy Slade, Lisa Robertson, Dan Starling, Lawrence Paul Yuxwelptun, Jayce Salloum, Cathy Busby, Garry Neill Kennedy, Heather Passmore, Jeremy Hof, Kyla Mallett, Diyan Achjadi, Tim Head, Lauren Halsey, Fabiola Carranza, Sonny Assu, Jamie Hilder, Neill Wedman, and Laura Owens.
