Karl Mata Hipol, born in the Philippines and immigrated to Canada in 2015. I am a multidisciplinary artist living and creating on the unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh, also known as North Vancouver.
I hold a BFA (2022) with a major in Visual Art and a minor in Curatorial Practices from Emily Carr University of Art + Design. I was awarded the OPUS Art Supplies Graduation Award BFA and Honourable Mention for the ECU Graduation Award for the Anti-Racism + Social Justice.
The list of galleries I have exhibited includes Burnaby Village Museum (2022), Burrard Arts Foundation (2022), Centre A (2021), Headline Gallery (2021), Seymour Art Gallery (Honorable mention, 2021), The Reach Gallery Museum (2020-2021); Federation of Canadian Artist Gallery (Honorable mention award, 2020; Second placer, 2019). I have also been awarded the 2022 Artist-In-Residence by Herschel Supply Co, Gastown. My artworks are collected locally and internationally in countries like Canada, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Ireland, and the Philippines.
