Over the past few decades Owen Kydd has become known for his video-based work that explores intersections between film and photography. Upon initial observation his video work may appear static, however subtle movements reveal scenes that unfold in real time. His use of contemporary technologies expand the boundaries of pictorial depiction and contribute to an experience of time and space as much as a visual field. Kydd’s work operates in the interstices of the real and the unexpected, observing film as a documentative medium and digital fabric that can be transformed and distorted, similar to how a painter forms scenes that utilize gesture and narrative to tell a story.
