SD Holman (born 1963, Hollywood, California) is a queer pagan Jewish image-based award-winning artist and curator. Considered by some to be Vancouver’s best portrait photographer, Holman is known for engagement with themes of sex, loss and identity. An ECUAD graduate, Holman was picked up by the Vancouver Association for Non-commercial Culture (the NON) right out of art school. Holman is Artistic Director and founder of SUM, Canada’s only queer-mandated transdisciplinary gallery, and the Queer Arts Festival, recognized among the top 3 festivals of its kind worldwide. Holman’s work has toured internationally, including to Wellesley College, the Advocate Gallery (Los Angeles), the Soady-Campbell Gallery (New York), the San Francisco Public Library, The Helen Pitt International Gallery, Charles H. Scott, Exposure, Gallery Gachet, Vancouver East Cultural Centre, Artropolis, and Fotobase Galleries (Vancouver). Having toured North America, Holman’s BUTCH: Not like the other girls is now in its second edition, published by Dagger Editions, an imprint of Caitlin Press.
