Stephen Scott was born on a farm in a small town about 20 km outside of Montreal, Quebec. He first came out to British Columbia when he was just twenty-one years old to plant trees in Prince George. He was saving up to go to school. “I brought my first boyfriend, too,” he says. “And I bought my first car too, and we went all over BC. Me and my partner, we looked like Batman and Robin because the car was the shape of the Batmobile.” He became a Megaphone vendor shortly after the 2010 Winter Olympics because it tries to “help all these people, because I used to be living on the streets too, so for me, it was really touching.” When he isn’t selling magazines or Hope in Shadows calendars, Scott volunteers with Coast Mental Health and many other groups. He also enjoys organizing BBQs and going to the beach.
