Sydney Southam

Sydney Southam is an artist working in moving image, photography, sculpture, and performance. She often works with archival 16mm film, exploring themes of nostalgia, death, memory, and identity. Her work has been exhibited extensively across Canada and Europe, most notably at Yinka Shonibare Guest Projects, London; Aesthetica Short Film Festival, York; and Tran-Ideology: Nostalgia Film Festival, Berlin. Sydney also curates an evening of dinner with an accompanying artist talk called the Special Sunday Supper, made possible with a grant by the City Of Vancouver. Her film Ice Cream was the recipient of the Kopparberg Klash and Vice Magazine award for Film in 2010. She holds a BA in English from the University of Toronto and a BFA in Fine Art with First Class Honours from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London.
