James Nizam’s razor-sharp work makes me rethink everyday existence. In it there is a sense of impossibility that makes me think anew even the most banal of interior or exterior domestic spaces. “Behold!” says Corinthians 15:51, “I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye,” or, as the Pet Shop Boys would put it, “Just when you least expect it, just what you least expect.” Nizam invariably astounds and from him I always expect, and receive, the unexpected.
