Lights. Ponies. Rainbows. The work of Dainesha Nugent-Palache contains all these elements and was what first drew me to the work when I saw it in Family Album, Capture’s 2022 Featured Exhibition. The work is a reflection of Nugent-Palache’s childhood memories of being surrounded by porcelain figurines in her home which were collected by her mother. The kaleidoscopic treatment was created by using candlelight, a tungsten strobe head, and a low shutter speed–transporting us from the mundane to the surreal.
