We’re excited to announce that we are continuing our partnership with Booooooom to curate another public art installation for the Canada Line Train Station in Vancouver. If you’re a photographer or an artist making lens-based work, this is an international open call to submit for consideration work that engages with the theme “still life”.
The selected artist will be part of the 2022 Capture Photography Festival and their work will be featured on the Capture website and in the 2022 Capture catalogue. The artist will also be featured on Booooooom and be paid a fee of $600 CAD (adhering to standard CARFAC fees for temporary public art works in Canada).
Last year we selected Hiro Tanaka as the artist for our 2021 Capture Public Art Project. You can see his work installed on the Olympic Village train station, below.
For the 2022 installation, the artwork will be installed on the large windows on the front of the King Edward Canada Line Station alongside a didactic panel with information on the work. The images will be placed on a 97″x 94″ section with 1.5″ vertical gaps between each section. The three sections combined have a total area of 294″ x 94″ which can be used to display one large image across all the panels or a series of images. For reference, here is a photo of Angela Blažanović’s work installed at this station as part of Capture 2020.
You may submit a single work or a related series of works that speak to the theme of “still life”. If you want to submit multiple works that are not related to each other, please make multiple submissions, as multiple images in one entry will be considered as a single body of work, and the jury will take into consideration cohesiveness. Please note we cannot publicly display images of people this year. As per InTransit BC Public Art Installation Policy: any depiction of graffiti, religious messages, corporate logos, or of individuals or groups within an artwork is not permitted.
Unlimited entries are FREE for Booooooom members and Capture Photography Festival members. If you’re a Capture member, email Capture to request the submission link. All entries by non-members are subject to a fee of $10 USD paid at the time of submission.
You can learn more about submitting here: https://www.booooooom.com/2021/09/20/booooooom-x-capture-publicart/
All entries will be reviewed by Jeff Hamada, Editor-in-Chief of Booooooom, to identify a shortlist. This list will be reviewed by a jury of Capture Photography Festival and Boooooooom staff who will mutually agree upon a finalist. The chosen artist or artist group will be selected in November.
Deadline for submissions: 11:59 PM PST on October 18, 2021
