We’re excited to announce that we are continuing our partnership with Booooooom to curate a public art installation which will be mounted at the Broadway–City Hall Canada Line Station in Vancouver. This is an international open call for photographers and artists making lens-based work.
The selected artist will be part of the 11th annual 2024 Capture Photography Festival which will take place from April 1–30, 2024. The public art project will be on display from April–August 2024. The selected artist’s work will be featured in the 2024 Capture Catalogue and on the Capture and Booooooom websites. The artist will be paid a fee of approximately $665 CAD (the finalized artist fee will adhere to standard 2024 CARFAC fees for temporary public artworks in Canada).
Deadline for submissions: Monday, October 23, 2023 at 11:59 PM PST.
Last year, we selected Alison Boulier as the artist for our 2023 Capture Public Art Project. You can see her work installed on the Olympic Village Canada Line Station.
For the 2024 installation, the artwork will be installed on the five windows of the Broadway–City Hall Canada Line Station that face Cambie St. The works will be printed on 60/40 opacity vinyl and a didactic panel with information on the work will be placed alongside the installation. The five windows can be used to display one large horizontal image across all the panels or a series of five images.
You may submit a single work or a related series of works. If you want to submit multiple works that are not related to each other, please make multiple submissions, as multiple images in one entry will be considered as a single body of work, and the jury will take into consideration cohesiveness.
Please note as per InTransitBC Public Art Installation Policy any depiction within an artwork of graffiti, weapons, smoking, alcohol and drug paraphernalia, religious messages, corporate logos, or of individuals or groups is not permitted.
Unlimited entries are FREE for Booooooom members and Capture Photography Festival members. If you’re a Capture member, email Capture at [email protected] to request the submission link. All entries by non-members are subject to a fee of $15 USD paid at the time of submission.

All entries will be reviewed by Jeff Hamada, Editor-in-Chief of Booooooom, to identify a shortlist. This list will be reviewed by a jury including Capture Photography Festival and Boooooooom staff who will mutually agree upon a finalist. The chosen artist or artist group will be selected in November 2023.
All applicants will receive a notification after the final selection in November.
