Artist Talk

Jessica Eaton

Jessica Eaton discusses her photography practice and her site-specific commission from the Burrard Arts Foundation and Capture Photography Festival on the facade of the BC Hydro Dal Grauer Substation. Eaton’s practice examines the inner workings of analogue cameras’ production of images. While the effects she achieves at first seem the product of Photoshop, her vibrant photographs are the result of several basic manipulations of the photographic process, such as multiple exposures and the use of lens filters. With its reference to modernism and modernist art, Eaton’s current installation carries forth the impetus behind the building’s 1954 design, which was intended to bridge the gap between art, architecture, and technology.
