Crabtown Pachinko Pagoda

Crabtown Pachinko Pagoda is a participatory exhibition constructed on the right-of-way for the Kinder Morgan Pipeline expansion. Five interlocked, backlit pachinko machines create a temporary photography pagoda, engaging viewers in a situation of chance while challenging them to consider the context of the surrounding location, its present space, and its proposed future use.

The popup takes place within the Traditional Territory of the Tsleil-Waututh First Nation, in Burnaby’s Confederation Park, at the public thruway over the pipeline between the Kinder Morgan TransMountain Project and the Chevron Refinery.

The project makes use of recycled materials and solar panels to power the backlit photographic images.
