Tour

Evergreen Cultural Centre Family Days

Led by ECC Educator Julie Epp, families will find inspiration in Angeline Simon’s public art installation All That We Carry at Lafarge Lake-Douglas SkyTrain Station. Families will take a short walk outside to see how the landscape around them impacts negative spaces, which will inform their collages. After the walk and tour of the work, families will create a personal collage using photographs and found materials.

Lethbridge-based artist Angeline Simon mines her familial photographic archives for source material to create collages that span multiple time periods and geographies, fulfilling a human desire for connection and belonging. Grappling with the disconnection the artist feels to her Malaysian Chinese and German roots, “All that we carry” urges us to consider how culture and family history are altered or lost in the process of immigration.

All That We Carry is presented in partnership with Evergreen Cultural Centre, Art Gallery at Evergreen and TransLink for Capture Photography Festival.
