The Ballad of a Soldier-Bard emerges from the meeting of photography and poetry, two languages woven into a single act of storytelling. Stefano Gulmanelli’s black-and-white images enter into dialogue with Arianna Dagnino’s poetic cycle To Die Like a Poem, shaping a narrative that explores love, memory, and creativity in times of conflict.

Live music by guitarists Bruce Davidson and Leonardo Paolella, and singer-songwriter Marenia amplifies the emotional resonance, transforming the performance into an immersive, multidimensional experience. At its heart stands the soldier-bard—a jazz musician witnessing war while sensing fragile beauty—embodying art as resilience, transformation, and connection in an unsettled world.

Stefano Gulmanelli is a Vancouver-based visual artist, photographer, researcher. His most recent project, Lines of Belonging: 21,000 km into Canadian Lives, integrates photography with narrative inquiry.

Arianna Dagnino moves between worlds—linguistic, geographic, emotional. Rooted in Vancouver, she travels the page like a cartographer of the soul–

Maria Ylenia Trozzolo is a Vancouver-based Italian singer, songwriter, and co-founder of Marenia (est. 1993), a contemporary folk and world music project.

Bruce Davidson, a physicist and researcher at the University of British Columbia, and Leonardo Paolella, an electrical engineer by profession, are guitarists by passion. Their musical work blends technical precision with creative exploration.
