In Hairlight, Goya Ngan illuminates plant surfaces to reveal the forms behind their glow. She speculates that the hairs and other surface details are what draw us closer to plants and contribute to their beauty. This appreciation is deepened when we learn about the fascinating functions of plant hairs. Ngan uses macro lenses, reversed lenses, and microscopes to enter the miniature world. Once inside, she is driven by curiosity of the subject and the delight of finding engaging combinations of colour and subject. Ngan attempts to catch a temporal quality in light and material state, never shying from fragile subjects.
