Britannia Art Gallery is part of the Britannia Community Services Centre, which has a unique partnership with the City of Vancouver, Vancouver School Board, Vancouver Park Board, and Vancouver Public Library. It supports a wide range of art programming for the Grandview-Woodland and Strathcona neighbourhoods and seeks to provide opportunities for the public to interact with artists and the artistic process.
The gallery is committed to its local community—selecting art exhibitions that contribute to seeing, experiencing, and understanding the world in new ways. Submission to the gallery is open to leisure artists, artisans, school groups, and any sector of the community that falls within Britannia’s catchment area. It extends from Main Street to Nanaimo Street, from Broadway to the south shore of Burrard Inlet.
Selections are made by the curator, in consultation with the Britannia Arts & Culture committee and head librarian. Artist fees are paid to all exhibitors. Additionally the gallery invites proposals for five art workshops per year as related to gallery programming. A larger workroom is made available and up to fifteen participants can register for $10 per event.
