New Media Gallery

New Media Gallery is the civic gallery for the City of New Westminster, serving Metro Vancouver and a growing international following. It is a contemporary, public gallery dedicated to presenting inspiring and provocative new media art from around the world and has been in operation since 2014. NMG is a non-collecting gallery. Its exhibition development includes research, documentation, and a commitment to the ongoing care and quality presentation and installation of a diverse range of loaned works from some of the most prestigious artists, institutions, and collectors worldwide.

The Director/Curators have international experience, curating five unique exhibitions a year, each eight to ten weeks long. The gallery brings together significant contemporary works of art from the last thirty years as well as new work by emerging artists. NMG is committed to encouraging knowledge, understanding, and an ongoing love of contemporary art. The curators engage daily with the public through interested personal discussion. This has resulted in a deep personal understanding of the gallery’s audience as well as rapid growth.

Education is a vital focus of the gallery. NMG collaborates with schools, universities, and colleges by offering talks, visits, and workshops linked to each exhibition. The gallery often partners with organizations like DOXA, the University of British Columbia, DIM Cinema, Art Services, and numerous artists and professionals to develop exciting, multidisciplinary events, artist talks, and workshops.

New Media Gallery is located in the Anvil Centre. The flexible gallery space ranges from 2,000 to 3,000 square feet. NMG has access to a 364-seat theatre, art studios, and program rooms for lectures, screenings, and art programs. Support spaces include workshops, climate-controlled storage rooms, layout rooms, and two loading docks. The entire 84,000 square foot Anvil is available for break-out and performance. NMG is fortunate to have professional colleagues who support the gallery including an arts programmer, registrar, technicians, and administrator, as well as diverse civic staff.
