Capture Photography Festival, Western Canada’s largest lens-based art festival, is pleased to partner with Magenta Foundation, founder of the Flash Forward Incubator Program, to present the fourth edition of Incubator in British Columbia. Designed for students within the high school setting, the program proposes a new and exciting model for arts education in Canada. It prepares emerging artists for their transition out of high school and into the next phases of their artistic careers.
This year, students are responding to the theme Still Life. The works examine the impact of the thematic statement and consider how literal and conceptual interpretations of a stilled life may affect us personally regarding behaviours, values, and a sense of self in conjunction with the current intellectual, moral and cultural climate of our era.
Incubator integrates interactive and instructional methods to provide youth with diverse opportunities to receive feedback on the evolution of their artistic concepts. It is offered free of charge outside of the regular school curriculum and is an opportunity for students to broaden the scope of their art. Incubator is developed in collaboration with industry professionals and educators, including teachers and artists, as well as Magenta’s and Capture’s education teams and this year was developed as a virtual program due to Covid-19.
Each of the professionally printed works is available for purchase in an online auction. 100% of funds raised will go to the participating schools to support their art programs. Visit the online auction at this link to show your support and place a bid.
