Mayan Vered is an avid gardener with a background in photography. She received her BFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Vancouver, in 2010, with a strong interest in portraiture as a way to depict the amazing people she encounters in the world. Travel has often fuelled Vered’s artistic practice and she spent one year capturing sights and people on medium format film all over India and Nepal. This journey culminated in her first solo show, Straight and Left, at Kokopelli Salon and Gallery, Vancouver, in 2012.
While studying horticulture at the University of British Columbia Botanical Garden in 2015, Vered found the perfect way to marry her passions of portraiture, photography, and horticulture. She created a series of flower portraits depicting the beautiful flora she found in the gardens each day. Her 2016 exhibition, Spring forth, is the product of this marriage of interests.
