Tomas Jirku is an emerging Czech-born, Vancouver-based photographer who explores the backcountry of the surrounding mountains in search of its hidden secrets. His work has been exhibited in groups shows in Vancouver, and his first solo show is part of the 2017 Capture Photograph Festival programming.
He studied graphic design at the Ontario College of Art and Design, Toronto, and works professionally in print, having a hand in producing the works of notable Vancouver artists.
Jirku uses modern technology to explore beyond the limits of human vision, seeking to reveal the otherwise imperceptible energies that radiate from these pristine environments. Combining layers of perception, he provides the viewer context for the reverie one experiences away from the human-made world and an awareness of perspectives beyond those we take for granted.
