Join TD Assistant Curator of Engagement, Jas Lally for a series of Tuesday Lunch Time tours of Family Album, Capture Photography Festival’s 2022 Featured Exhibition.
Lally will discuss the meaning and weight held by family histories and the ways in which photography is used to understand and unpack these generational narratives, hopes and traumas as demonstrated by the artists in the exhibition.
This exhibition includes artists that use their practice as a tool through which to expand, explore, and consider their relationship to their family and heritage. Sometimes they redeploy existing family photographs to create something entirely new, some photograph their families directly capturing the intimacy and shared space they inhabit, others capture sites that are significant to their family history, and some artists stage and recreate scenes of familial weight.Featuring works by Rydel Cerezo, Anique Jordan, Anna Kasko, Meryl McMaster, Cheryl Mukherji, Dainesha Nugent-Palache, Birthe Piontek and Sylvia Rossi.
Family Album is organized by Capture Photography Festival, presented by TD Bank Group and generously supported by the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association.
Jas Lally is the TD Assistant Curator of Engagement for Capture Photography Festival. Lally has been involved in the Vancouver art community for over 10 years working in not-for-profit galleries supporting local emerging artists. Her past positions include, Assistant at Art Rental & Sales at the Vancouver Art Gallery and Assistant Curator at the Contemporary Art Gallery. Lally is currently serving as President for the Board of Directors of the Contemporary Art Society of Vancouver, President and Fundraising Chair for the Board of Directors of the Richmond Art Gallery Association and is on the Artist Residency Committee for Burrard Arts Foundation. She received a Masters in History of Art from the University of Birmingham, UK, in the curatorial program where she was the team leader in organizing a graduate-led exhibition of drawings from the National Portrait Gallery, London.
