Chernoff Fine Art is pleased to present a solo exhibition of recent work by Vancouver-based artist Holly Marie Armishaw. Her latest series of photographic works reflect a clean, contemporary, minimalist, white-on-white aesthetic. This imagery explores the idea of body memory and repressions caused by the long-term effects of trauma. Simultaneously critiquing the photographic medium, the frames are no mere formal devices but rather participants in the minor performances of the artworks. The artist’s treatment of the frames, and the photographic subject’s engagement with the surfaces of the photographs, connote a consciousness of the invisible barriers of the photographic medium.
The exhibition runs until May 7.
