Born and raised in the Lower Mainland, Alex Waber grew up with a photographer for a dad. The camera came into his hands at a young age, though movies grabbed most of his attention. He studied cinematography at Capilano College, North Vancouver, and worked in the film industry for a few years before making the switch to photography. Waber has a strong commercial practice, shooting portraiture and fashion for clients like the Georgia Straight, SAD Magazine, Montecristo, and various local designers and businesses. His art is the escape from the commercials world’s quest for the “perfect” image. Waber tries to explore the medium from inception to presentation and the various implication it holds along the way. He currently teaches his practice at Arts Umbrella on Granville Island.
